The Youth Services Department has many things to offer our young patrons. From a wide selection of materials spanning the thousands of books, DVDs, CD’s, and magazines on our shelves to the variety of programs happening throughout the calendar year. For assistance we invite all patrons to come visit the Youth Services desk and talk with any of our staff, or call (708) 652-8084 Ext: 7.

Programs Currently Offered For Children

Each week we try to have some fun programs for our young patrons to participate in. We offer hard copies of our program calendars at the Youth Services desk so you can keep up to date whenever you visit us. Please note that most programs require each child to have their own library card.

Afternoon Crafts*: Have some fun making cool crafts to take home after the school day is done!

Evening Crafts*: For the kids who need to do some homework first we have a craft event a little later in the day!

Fandom Club*: A program for fans of anime, comic books, cosplay, and games!

Game Day: Enjoy one of our many board games with family and friends! All ages are welcome! Tabletop, LAN, and card gaming groups are always welcome to join our space!

Movie Time: All ages are welcome as we put on a free showing of family movies!

Preschool-a-Palooza*: Every Wednesday the youngest of the young are invited to a program dedicated to them. Alternating each week, children five years old and younger can enjoy a nice story with a little craft afterwards or a bigger craft project. All with mom and/or dad by their side!

* Library card required

Visiting The Youth Services Department

If you’re a teacher or involved with a local program and would like to acquaint your students and their parents with what the library has to offer, we welcome you to visit us.

Give us a call at (708) 652-8084 Ext: 7

We’re more than happy to offer a presentation about the services and programs we provide, as well as giving a full tour of the department as part of your visit.

Please observe the following before your visit:

Visits must be scheduled through the Youth Services Department at least two weeks prior to the visit. Groups arriving at the library without a scheduled visit are invited to use the facility, but staff will not be available to give tours or attempt any type of presentation.

Groups visiting the library are requested to have at least one adult chaperone for every ten children present during a visit.

Volunteering

Are you looking for a place to volunteer? The Youth Services Department is happy to offer anyone over the age of 13 the opportunity to do so. Whether it’s for an academic requirement or just for fun, all that you need to do is visit us at the Youth Services desk and pick up an application.

Typical tasks for volunteers include: helping with basic tasks such as cutting items for program prep, straightening shelves, decorating, cleaning, etc.

The number of volunteers that can be accepted is limited. While we try our best to give our volunteers the opportunity, we cannot guarantee completion of any service hour requirements.

For more information give us a call at (708) 652-8084 Ext: 7
